ASPI Warns QRIS Merchants Used for Online Gambling Will Be Blocked
Indonesia's payment association says it will revoke QRIS access and disable payment devices for merchants found processing online gambling transactions. The warning follows PPATK data showing a shift toward QRIS deposits.

ASPI chair Santoso says QRIS merchants proven to handle online gambling will have their QRIS pulled and payment devices disabled. PPATK data shows QRIS accounted for 88.6% of deposit frequency in Q1 2026.
Indonesia's payment system association is drawing a hard line on QRIS misuse.
ASPI chair Santoso said on Tuesday (14 Oct 2026) that merchants whose QRIS codes are proven to be used for online gambling will have their QRIS access revoked and their payment device switched off. The statement was made after the ISEF 2026 opening in Jakarta, as reported by CNBC Indonesia.
What PPATK found
PPATK, Indonesia's financial intelligence unit, recorded a shift in how online gambling deposits are made. In 2025, total online gambling turnover fell to Rp286.84 trillion from Rp359.81 trillion in 2024.
But the deposit mix changed sharply. Across 2025, QRIS accounted for about 78.5% of deposit frequency, equal to 305.35 million transactions with a nominal value of Rp19.35 trillion. Bank transfers and e-wallets together made up 21.5%, or 83.79 million transactions worth Rp16.67 trillion, according to PPATK.
By Q1 2026, QRIS's share of deposit frequency had risen to 88.6%, while bank transfers stood at 11.4%.
The response
Santoso stressed that QRIS is meant to support the economy and customer transactions, not online gambling. He said ASPI will coordinate with members and PPATK, and will take firm action if there is evidence.
The takeaway: Indonesia's payment association says QRIS misuse for online gambling will trigger blocking and revocation.
